As every man knows, all good ideas come from women. Back in 1909, a certain Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington heard a sermon about a newly created holiday called Mother’s Day. She was so moved that she took it upon herself to create a similar holiday to honor her father, a civil war veteran who raised six children as a single parent.
She originally suggested June 5th, her father’s birthday, as the date. However, the pastors needed a bit more time to prepare their sermons and the celebration was deferred to the third Sunday in June.
America’s other religion, shopping, got involved soon thereafter. With the backing of manufacturers of ties, tobacco pipes and other manly things, a holiday was born.
Fast forward 109 years, and millions and millions of neckties (which, as everybody knows, were invented by Croatians) and here we are again, celebrating Father’s Day.
But instead of a tie, we have a much more interesting Croatian export for your gifting needs. Wine.
Your dad is sure to love our handpicked wine sets, all organically farmed and made with great care along the Adriatic. Now available at your doorstep the next day.
Happy Father’s Day!
