Moms ❤ Truffles & Bubbles
When Ann died in 1905, her equally determined daughter Anna started a campaign to create a holiday that would honor her and all mothers. By 1914 her efforts were successful and President Woodrow Wilson officially made the second Sunday in May Mother’s Day.
However, capitalism soon stepped in and Anna became livid with the commercialization of the holiday she created to celebrate mothers. She referred to the florists, greeting card manufacturers and the confectionery industry that corrupted her creation as “charlatans, bandits, pirates, racketeers, kidnappers and termites that would undermine with their greed one of the finest, noblest and truest movements and celebrations.”
She did not, however, mention any truffle hunters or prosecco makers. So, this year, give your mom a hug, spend time with her, write her a letter, call her. And maybe treat her to some of our Truffle Toast with our Truffles & Bubbles combo set. Or simply come by the farmers’ market on Saturday, pick up some special food finds, and cook for her on Sunday.
