Kulen is traditionally eaten on special occasions in the Slavonia region, and has a unique spicy, smoky taste with a hint of sweetness that is unlike any other sausage. It is smoked over beech wood before a lengthy curing process with sea salt. Kulen is made from the best prime loin cuts of an indigenous breed of pigs, which are raised free range and fed organically on corn, barley and oats. It contains no nitrates or additives.
How to enjoy it
Delicious in a chicken risotto, pasta, as a topping for pizza or frittata, with scallops or on an antipasti board. Pairs very well with mild cheeses such as our Dalmatian Cheese and lighter reds such as Pinot Noir.
